School Partnership
and Opportunities

Getting involved in local community and civil society projects is incredibly important for youth and school children, as it helps shape them into responsible, empathetic, and empowered individuals.

By actively participating young people learn firsthand the value of teamwork, leadership, and civic responsibility. They develop a deeper understanding of social issues and the role they can play in creating positive change. Community engagement fosters a sense of purpose and belonging, encouraging youth to become active citizens who care about their surroundings and the people in them. These experiences not only build character but also inspire a lifelong commitment to making the world a better place—starting right in their own neighbourhoods.

School "We Care" Coin and Copper Drive

Join the St Bernard's Coin Drive – Small Change, Big Impact!

Each year, schools across Buffalo City (East London) proudly partner with St Bernard’s to support compassionate patient care through our annual Coin Drive.

It’s simple and meaningful: each learner is given an empty 5L bottle from St Bernard’s and commits to collecting coins during a selected period—typically the second school term. Learners, along with their families, are encouraged to fill these bottles with spare change as a fun and meaningful challenge.

At the end of the campaign, St Bernard’s collects the bottles—whether full, half-full, or even still empty—and begins the process of counting and banking the donations. Every cent, from coins to the occasional R10 or R20 note, goes directly toward funding the compassionate care we provide to those living with cancer or terminal illnesses in the Buffalo City (East London) Buffalo City area.

Once all funds are tallied and banked, each school receives a report on the total they helped raise. Learners also get to see the powerful impact of their kindness, understanding how even the smallest act can bring comfort and dignity to those in need.

Together, we turn small change into lasting change. Be a part of something meaningful—join the St Bernard’s Coin Drive today!
