Serving the East London Community for over 27 years, offering Home Based Palliative Care to members in our Community who are suffering from debilitating illnesses.
Examples of such are, Cancer, Motor Neuron Disease, Multiple Sclerosis ; HIV/AIDS, Multi Drug Resistant TB, etc.
Our Qualified Nurses and trained carers also offer emotional support and counseling, which extends into the bereavement period to their families.

Demographics
- The Eastern Cape and Border region, including East London, is regarded as one of the least economically viable (2nd poorest) areas in the country, with sprawling townships where indescribable poverty exists. The area is prioritized for health and social development. HIV/AIDS, TB and DR TB are rife and due to poor nutrition/poverty, patients’ life expectancy is very short due to lack of basic nursing care, opportunistic infections, lack of infection control and malnutrition.
- The population group that has access to our service is a mixture between urban and rural with a high influx of migrant workers from rural areas.
- Over 60% unemployed – impoverished.
- Non-vibrant economy – very few big corporate companies to create employment.

- We provide our services within the city of East London including surrounding rural areas and townships. We generally operate within a 60km radius.
- Our Home Carers live within the communities where they work which assists with home-calls. Our Professional Nurses are equipped with vehicles which enables them to travel to patient homes or facilities.
- Our services are offered free of charge. However, as a registered practice and with recognition made towards the invaluable contribution of Palliative Care to the medical field, patients who have access to the appropriate medical aids are asked to contribute according to their medical aid rates. We further welcome any donations to cover the cost of our services.

Admission Criteria
Admission Criteria
- Any person (adult or child) diagnosed with life threatening or life-limiting illness such as (but not limited to) Cancer, AIDS, Motor Neuron Disease, MDR TB, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy etc, can access our services, following correct procedures.
- We can only initiate care if the patient or their legal guardian gives us consent to do so.

If you think you would benefit from the services which Hospice provides, ask your doctor or clinical advisor to fill in a Referral Form, or phone us to assist with the referral process.
An initial home visit and assessment will determine the final admission of a patient and their individualised care plan.

What many people do not realize is, that often our patient care staff will remain with the family during their loved one’s last hours on earth and we will look after the practical arrangements, i.e. contact the funeral director, notify the necessary people who the family would like to notify of their loved one’s passing, etc. to enable the family to grieve and mourn their loved one, without worrying about practical arrangements
