Blink. Lo and behold, the first quarter of 2018 lies behind us and it feels as if 1 January was only yesterday. St Bernard’s Hospice started the year at record speed as we delight in new activities, opportunities, funding, partnerships and the ever consistent challenges that come with operating a Not for Profit organisation in times where everything is driven by profit.
Being in the service sector of Palliative Care, our patients teach us daily what it means to persevere despite circumstances, and we know that today’s pain is tomorrow’s strength.
As the CEO of this amazing organisation, my key focus along with our team has been systems improvement. We are absolutely delighted to have a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) as our new Financial Manager. Lauren Brady only started with us at 1 February but has already implemented great changes that will ease financial donor reporting in the months ahead.
A personal highlight has certainly been that I survived the first year of motherhood and my son seems to have survived it too. Jeremy and I look forward to raising a future little Hospice Hero.
Thank you for support of St Bernard’s Hospice and the work that we do. Please remember you are always welcome to visit or reach me at management@stbh.org.za
